Maybe WalMart is covering their apples with too much wax, March 17, 2010 (76/365)

Capturing life around me. I'm posting one picture every day in 2010. |
I couldn't resist using my new lightbox again. I grabbed an apple and painted it with a granny smith-colored encaustic to get the textures.
I finally took the time to make a homemade lightbox, so I thought it would be interesting to photograph a white object in it. I experimented with quite a few variations of lighting and I'll definitely find more opportunities to experiment with my new toy.
I found this old foosball table near a trash can. I like foosball, but this old table was not salvageable. It's plastic and particle board, so it will survive in the landfill for a long time.
I had been wanting to take photos of this unique tree for some time. It stands on a busy corner near open fields and I see it almost every day.
I was prepping for another photograph and two of my kids were helping me out. I enjoy having my kids help me out. Maybe they will enjoy photography when they are older.
I processed this shot for color to give myself a fake tan. Yes, I'm looking forward to summer.
My photographic theme for this shot was lighting. I hadn't planned a shot, so I went rummaging for ideas. I placed a light underneath blue paper for the background and used two OCFs on each side. As I threw the darts, I snapped the shot.
A pschyologically taxing day . . . feeling small and underwater. Somehow this shot came to me instantly, at the end of this long day, and the water effect (flash reflections from a shiny surface) came out nice. The backdrop was a blue sheet of paper.

After digging through some of my archives, I got a little nostalgic. This golden circuit board was my going away present from the best team I've ever worked on. (No offense to some of my current teammates . . . who are flickr users :)) We we're together for over five years in the early 90's. I designed this particular circuit board as one small component of a much larger radio system that eventually became Nextel.
